Serving King and Pierce county, our team understands the unique challenges faced by multicultural families, particularly when navigating complex systems like healthcare, education, and social services. By offering culturally responsive services and bilingual assistance, we help families understand their options, make informed decisions, and connect with the right resources.

Jennifer's Journey: From Support to Leadership

When Jennifer first connected with Open Doors for Multicultural Families, she and her family faced significant challenges navigating the disability service system. As a young adult with an intellectual disability, Jennifer wanted to become more independent, but her parents limited English proficiency created barriers to understanding available services, transition programs, and future planning opportunities.Through ODMF's culturally responsive support and advocacy, Jennifer and her mother learned how to navigate disability services, understand their rights, and access critical community resources. They gained valuable knowledge, confidence, and the ability to actively participate in planning for Jennifer's future. Over time, Jennifer developed strong self-advocacy skills and discovered the power of using her voice to create positive change. What began as a journey of learning soon became a journey of leadership. Today, Jennifer proudly serves as a Board Member for the Pierce County Developmental Disabilities Program, where she advocates for inclusion, accessibility, and opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities. She shares her lived experience to help shape a more equitable and supportive community for others. Jennifer's story demonstrates what is possible when families receive culturally responsive support, education, and encouragement. Her growth from navigating barriers to becoming a community leader is an inspiring example of resilience, determination, and empowerment.

A Message of Hope
