My Story

Dr. Michael A. Preston is a health services and systems researcher focused on advancing health equity through community-engaged and implementation-driven approaches. His work centers on developing and scaling strategies that improve access, outcomes, and system performance in medically underserved, rural, and under-resourced communities.

Dr. Preston has led and collaborated on multiple funded projects addressing cancer health disparities, precision public health, and health system reform, including examining the impact of Affordable Care Act provisions on equitable care delivery. He has developed an evidence-based intervention recognized by the National Cancer Institute’s Evidence-Based Cancer Control Programs (EBCCP) repository (formerly RTIPs), supporting the translation of research into real-world impact. He is the founder of the RURaL [Reaching the Underserved, Rural, and Low-Income] Lab for Dissemination and Implementation Research in Cancer Disparities, which supports the translation of evidence into sustainable, community-centered solutions.
